Oakwood Cemetery Tour

The Oakwood Cemetery Tour typically is the Sunday afternoon of Color Cruise Weekend in Grand Ledge (2nd Weekend in October). For 2021, the date for the tour is to be determined.  Oakwood Cemetery is Grand Ledge City's cemetery with 27 acres  (22 acres developed) and has been in existence since 1856.

The tour, lasts roughly an hour, details the history of the cemetery and some of its earliest pioneer families who are interred there. Oakwood Cemetery has an impressive military memorial area, a mysterious mausoleum;  a Michigan Governor (with an equally impressive political family) is buried there which all provide many interesting stories.

A springtime Lantern Tour during the Victorian Days Festival is in the planning for Oakwood. For more information, contact Cindy Langenberg, Secretary/Museum Curator for the Grand Ledge Area Historical Society.
